Telenovela - A Deep Dive with Matías Avaca

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to incorporate over-the-top acting, heightened emotions, and complex plot twists into your improv scenes. We’ll also explore how to effectively use language barriers and cultural differences in your storytelling. And who knows, you may just discover a hidden talent for playing the antagonist.

Workshop length: 3 hours
Recommended experience level: Intermediate (1 - 3 years experience)
Participants need to know: Participants in this workshop may be selected to perform in the show Hotel Sol, and if selected a rehearsal will be held 4pm the same day. Participation in the workshop does not guarantee being cast in the show, please advise the facilitator on the day if you do not wish to be considered for the cast.
Meet Matías Avaca (he/him)
Argentina/Aotearoa
Matias Avaca: an Argentine improviser living in New Zealand. He co-founded Mabel Impro and the Auckland Improv Festival, and helps driving Laenye Productions, a platform for Spanish-speaking artists. Bridging linguistic and cultural divides with his improv style, Matias's influence spans 15+ countries, further solidifying his impact on the Improv community.
