Diversity and inclusion
Big Fork Theatre is committed to diversity, inclusion and ensuring that comedy is accessible to everybody. Anyone can be funny, but often comedy spaces are not welcoming to women, First Nations people, people of colour, LGBTQIA+ people, disabled people, neurodiverse people, working class people, unemployed people, older people and parents.
Big Fork Theatre is by no means perfect, but we always aim to make participation in improv and comedy at our organisation as straightforward and safe as possible. Students, performers, and jammers, as well as audience members, are encouraged to approach us about how we can ensure that we can accomodate your needs, as well as providing spaces for people to flourish.
Some of the work we have done to support this goal include:
Check ins for shows, jams and classes
Scholarships
Women’s Show
Queer Jam
Improv in Colour Jam
Parents Jams
Expectations of participants and community members
The core principles of participation in the Big Fork Theatre community, as reflected in our Code of Conduct, are respect, community, fun and quality.
As outlined in our Code of Conduct Big Fork Theatre is committed to:
Respect - we do not tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind
Accessibility - making our shows and classes as accessible as possible
Accountability - our directors being present and transparent in our decisions
