Advanced: Improvising a Musical - Mondays - October 2025

Improvising a Musical will have students performing a full length, fully improvised musical from a single suggestion with confidence. Successful completion of Intermediate 2: Intro to Musical Improv and Group Mind is required to participate. Exemption may be granted to experienced improvisers under certain circumstances, please contact the training director at training@bigforktheatre.com to discuss.

Nothing wows an audience like a good improvised song, nothing blows them away like a fully improvised musical. Bring together all your improv skills and musical talent for your biggest challenge yet. This course will have you improvising the next Broadway hit from start to finish!

Specific skills and topics covered:

· The musical format

· Musical song types

· Where within a musical these song types are performed

· How to initiate songs from within a scene

· How to move back into scenic improv after a song

· Creating characters through song

· Ensemble Support

· Narrative through song

· Improvising a musical start to end.

· Vocal warm ups

This course meets for 8 sessions that are each 3 hours long.

About Big Fork Theatre

Big Fork Theatre is dedicated to long form improvisation in the Chicago and New York style, as made famous by Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Mike Meyers.  Big Fork primarily focuses on comedic improvisation.

Big Fork's teachers have many years experience both in teaching and performing, many of whom have traveled around the world to learn from some of the best improv teachers there are.  Our teachers are committed to creating a fun and enriching environment to learn in and grow the Brisbane improvisational community.
