Let there be Light
On Monday Big Fork Theatre launched a fundraising campaign to improve the space where we currently perform - The Paddington Substation - for both you the audience and our performers. We want to install our theatre lights we bought with a grant last year, upgrade our audience chairs to be more comfortable and add some professional stage chairs. All this will cost around $6000 and we were able to commit half of this, so our fundraising goal was $3000.
By Wednesday we had had such an overwhelming response to our fundraiser that we were able to take the leap and squeeze into an opening in our lighting rigger’s schedule.
For the past two and a bit years our wonderful performers would come into the Paddington Substation and turn it into a theatre. Every week we would set up our portable lighting rig and focus them on to the stage as best we could. They got the job done and we will always remember them fondly. But what if we could have something a little more permanent, a little more theatrical, with a lot less weekly setup?
On Friday while our fundraising was inching towards 100% our rigger was installing our brand new lighting rig and hanging our new lights - all because of the generosity of our donors and community.
Check out these progress shots and the high-flying antics of our professional rigger Ricky from Uptite Creative Rigging!

So with the rigging all complete it’s time to see how the new lights look!

As you can see our new lights and lighting grid allow for a much more natural colour and give much better coverage! This all thanks to our community who have gotten behind us and are supporting local comedy.
As of writing this blog we have surpassed our initial goal of $3000. We’ve had a chat amongst ourselves and due to your generosity and because we still have 20+ days left in the campaign we want to go for the whole $6000! While we were able to fund half the costs imagine what we could do to grow Big Fork Theatre if we could fundraise the full amount. So please donate today if you can and share our campaign with those you think would like to support the arts in Brisbane. Let’s do this!
