Bris-burning down the house! With Mark Lombard

Maybe you know Mark Lombard as that guy from Get It* Inya with the hilarious political and historical sketches. Maybe you know him as a practising lawyer. His comedy sights are now set on his home town in his new sketch show BRISBURN. We sat down with Mark for a quick chat about it.

What drove you to write BRISBURN?

Mark: I wrote Brisburn because an angel appeared to me in a dream and said that it would make me rich! Also I wanted to write a Portlandia for Brisbaners. If you can’t afford a house, there’s something for you.  If you love wearing R.M. Williams with a business suit, there’s something for you. If you can’t stand north-siders, there’s something for you too.

Ah yes the classic North verse South side debate! Where does your allegiance lie?

Mark: I'm currently pretty central but grew up on the south side.

Once a Southsider always a Southsider! You’ve been doing sketch comedy for a while yes?

Mark: Indeed. After graduating from the nursery of the UQ Law Revue, I was a member of The Complete First Season. Now I try to get up as much as possible at Get It Inya and the Queensland Young Lawyers’ Law Revue, and I host Changer Studios’ Comedy Conglomerate.

How very productive of you!

Mark: It’s not just me in the show though! I’m joined by some extremely talented friends of mine: James Tinniswood (Brisbane musical comedian), Michael Griffin (The Sexy Detectives), Liz Tuckett (QUT Law Revue) and Laura Sullivan (The Second City, Toronto).

Those are some comedy heavyweights. Surprise Quick Question! What are the first two Brisbane icons that come to your head RIGHT NOW!

Mark: Oh jeez I’m the spot! Look I’m really hungry for dinner so I’d have to say The Vietnamese restaurant in the Valley – it’s the best in Vietnamese in Brisbane in my opinion. I guess the other one is the old state library that’s now the casino headquarters. Mainly because I’m standing in front of it.

Any parting words Mark?

Mark: If you live in Brisbane (or even if you don’t) you will heart this show. It’s not every day you can see a brand new hour of hilarious sketch comedy about everyone’s favourite third largest Australian city. You may even meet John Oxley, the colonial mastermind of our collective misery!

BRISBURN is part of a double header with another Friend-of-the-Fork Ashwin Segkar’s show Stick Creature.  Catch it at the Metro Arts, 109 Edward Street, Brisbane on 8 July 2017 and 15 July 2017.
