Spontaneous Humour

Big Fork Theatre is literally all about laughter. As most of our comedy is improvised, it involves finding something funny in the most mundane things and situations. Much of the humour comes from making everything up as we go along, and the enthusiasm in the audience is contagious. The more people laugh, the funnier the sketches seem to get!

Many of our audience members have never seen improvised comedy before, and some refuse to believe it is actually all being made up on the spot. The great thing about improvisation is that every audience gets a completely unique experience; no two shows can ever be the same, which is what keeps people coming back for more, again and again. There’s nothing more satisfying than making a room full of people smile and laugh.

Brisbane has an endless appetite for comedy, and has also produced some amazing comedy performers. Big Fork Theatre offers opportunities both for those who perform comedy, and those who love it, with our monthly “Get It* Inya” sketch show. Featuring the best of Brisbane’s comedic talent, the shows regularly sell out. For plenty of laughter and an infectious atmosphere, it’s a great night out for you and your friends if you want a guaranteed giggle!

The monthly shows have been so popular that Big Fork Theatre recently organised our first mini-festival, Big Fork’s Big Weekend, to celebrate the growing pool of comedy talent in Brisbane.

Making people laugh is spontaneous, but improvised comedy involves developing your skills and learning tips and tricks from the professionals who have spent their lives perfecting their craft. For anyone really serious about the business of laughter, Big Fork runs courses in improvised comedy, where participants can hone their humorous talents, taught by some of the best improvisation experts in the business.
